This may have already been recomended, but Im not sure.

Anyway, it would be as follows:

When your ships are on your planets, you would have the option, to put them in -Off Duty- Mode. While in this mode, you would either have not to pay upkeep, or pay a smaller amount.

It would take one turn to put them into off duty mode, and one day to take them out. (Meaning that if you have a ship on your wp, and it is day 400, it will not be in odm untill 401, and cannot be out of odm untill 402, and cannot hence, move away from the planet untill 403).

Also, to prevent the problem of players just building up more ships then they could afford but having many in odm, it could be so that a the com. figured out how much the upkeep would be if the ships wernt in odm, and that if when this was added into your finance, that if that would of resulted in a deficit, the ships could not be in odm. This would mean that you would not be able to support more ships then you would have been able to otherwise (not purpose of suggestion), but so that you could save some credids during peace time.

This would be helpful because it would be more realistic. It would help save credits during peace time, and would also be more realistic in that during war time, economies are hurt, even if the war if far off, and that during peace time they do better. (of course war/peacetime would be not be a actual concept, but functions in that you would not have ships in odm if you are in a war, and visa versa.)

In the event of a battle wheras a ship on the planet was in odm, It could be so that it still could fight as well as if it were not in it.

To prevent misuse of this though, it could be made so that ships could not be in odm on planets that had been in battles in the last 20-25 days or so, and that a ship could not go into odm with out being "in duty" for a minimum incriment of say 10 days. Also, attacks on a planet with odm ships, would cause the ships to go into "dm".

Changes can be made to this, but thats basicly it...

This Idea is good, but this "Off Duty" Mode must have also a disadvantage. I would propose that it needs one turn to bring a Ship to the --Off duty mode-- but it needs 20 days to bring this Ship back in service.

If a enemy attack a planet with ships, which are not in duty he can destroy them all without loses.

Of this way it would be possible that a player can conquer a other player throught a very fast attack.

Think Pearl Harbor. Ships in ODM should not be able to react in the event of an attack.

Other than that, it sounds good.

Well in real it would go faster, but you must notice the playing of Kosmor. In twenty days can a jump-WP fly around 1680 LJ, but only if he know ONE target.

If the attacker must attack more planets with ODM - Ships or the attacker don't know good targets and must search - he lose time.

This time is needed to give the attacker a chance to win. The defender must be forced to hold ships in service to defend hisself during this twenty days. If that not riskful, would each guy set all his ships in ODM Mode, would save his money for bad War-times and would use during the War a greater Fleet as his income normaly allow.

if this would be implemented i'd be with the incredibly large amount of time to get them back again, and even if in ODM still pay about 2/3 or 3/4 the upkeep Wink

thats part of the ppoint on attacking someone, its not suppossed to be easy. i like the idea, but a 20 day re-mobilization time frame is stupid! it doesnt take that long to remobilize your ships, the crews would be close by and all....it should depend on the number of ships that you have on stand by to determine the time frame that it would take to get everything going again...doesnt that sound a bit more realistic?

I personally think that 20 days is a bit too long, too. Maybe the ship should take different times to mobilize based on hull level. Like H1-H3, takes 1 day. H4-H6, takes 2 days. H7-H9, takes 3 days, and H10/11 takes 4 days.

This would give people a good reason to build H3's and H1's.
