I see... Yes, I agree - the separation blond/dark is mostly north/south than west/east.

Back to topic: Naming ships with the name of neighbouring house is a good diplomatic move I guess... Wink

In Norwegian, the names of some days still reflect our historic origins:

Monday - Mandag - Day of the man (?) (christian I suppose, not really sure)
Tuesday - Tirsdag - Tyr's day (god of power, took care of Fenris the giant wolf (that is why he is single-handed...))
Wednesday - Onsdag - Odin's day (god of knowledge and power)
Thursday - Torsdag - Thor's day (god of power, the thunder-god)
Friday - Fredag - Frey's day (god of fertility and crops)
Saturday - L°rdag - Laugardag ("lauge" meaning washing, so it is hte bathing-day)
Sunday - S°nday - Day of the son (?) (christian I suppose, not really sure)

Ah, and about the small norse influence in Russia. The name Novogrod, and similar remind me about the word "gar" - meaning referring to a grouping of houses (farm/town). Striking similarity.

And ¤stanbul were known as "Mikilgard" - meaning "large city" (back in the days we went there as traders and mercenaries).

I guess this is due to the common Indo-Europaean origins of our languages: "Gorod" or "Grad" in almost all slavonic languages means "Town" or "City".

The Black Sea region has seen some vikings before - some of those, sailing through the big Russian rivers to the south. Although the name "Mikilgard" is not known here, we call Istanbul "Tzarigrad" - "the city of the Tzars".

Dienstag = Dienstag = "work day"

English/French/Meaning/Latin
Monday/Lundi/ moon day/ Lunae Dies
Tuesday/Mardi/ Mars Day/ Martis Dies
Wednesday/ Mercredi/ Mercury day/ Mercurii Dies
Thursday/ Jeudi/ Jupiter Day/ Jovis Dies
Friday/ Vendredi/ Venus Day/ Veneris Dies
Satursday/ Samedi/ Sabbath Day/ Sabbati Dies
Sunday/Dimanche/ God's day/ Dies Dominicus

Well, it's easy to say that english and french haven't the same origins for the name of the days...
The meanings of the french days names are similar to spanish ones (Lunes (Moon), Martes (Mars), MiÚrcoles (Mercury), Jueves (Jupiter (Jovis)), Viernes (Venus), Sabado (Sabbath), Domingo (God))

you can see that they are often just the stem from the latin word which is equivilant of a norse word for the english or german or scandinavian days

whereas your biggest mythology is roman, ours is norse
it's bizarre though, that the moon, sun, mars (tyr) occur on the same days, and the others are all of similar ideas, just not quite matching

Well I must say my fleet style has changed quite alot since my last post, before I was into having abit of everything not very well thought out as it cost me much more than it should have for alot less CP. Flaming Angry!

Now it's all about the H1/H10/H11 Razz

A teaser of my fleet, but any of those that will have seen my WP will know my CP anyway.

You can guess or already know the rough size of my fleet but I wanted to share the names and explain what they are about.

H1 - Fodder = Cannon Fodder only good for protecting the rest of the fleet.

H3 - Space_Fighter = Self explanatory.

H5 - MG = Mini Giner Wink

H7 - Cruiser = Self explanatory

H9 - SG - Small Giner Wink

H10 - 10_Insert Name = These were inspired by former or residing major players around me or in kosmor.com history. Cool

H10 - G = Just ordinary Giner Wink

H11 - BG = Big Giner Wink

H11 - DreamWeaver = Because every fleet has to have a flagship!

I invite other people to give a little taster of there fleet or explain just a tiny bit of why they choose the name, like the OP intended. See from mine, you cannot guess my actually full fleet or whether or not that is all the fleet I have Wink.

First names were from History of The Order of Templar ... later names from science , logic , mysticism etc.

H1 - Errant ; Knight-errant - Errant : meaning wandering or roving, indicates how the knight-errant would typically wander the land in search of adventures to prove himself as a Knight
H3 - Hussar ; type of light cavalry from Central Europe
H4,H5 - Squire ; initially men who aspired to the rank of knighthood and later servants of Knights as attendants or shield carriers
H6 - Sergeant
H7 - Crusader
H8 - Paladin

H9,10,11 have proper names. I will write down only few from many Wink :
-Nemesis - first flagship
-Wrath of God
-Jacques de Molay
-Wrath_of_Assisi
-Quinta_Essentia - Quintessence
-Spear_of_Destiny
-Defender of Truth
-Armor_of_Faith
-Eadem_Mutata_Resurgo - which means "Although changed, I shall arise the same"
- and the actual flagship - Beauseant - means "Be glorious and noble" - is the battleflag and sometimes the battlecry of The Templars

As i do not have an elaborate naming scheme, i can not really post teasers, just explain where i get my names from.

Basically, i use everything that i like, and actually remember when building ships. Sometimes i'm in the city, and read some nice in an advert, or i listen to the radio..

I also like to name several ships after the same story or whereever i got the name from, like "Master of two worlds" or "The ultimate boon" are both (and some others aswell) from the so called Monomyth. I stumbled upon that some time ago, and liked some of the terms used there.

Similar with "A call to arms" and "In the army now". Should be obvious why they fit together".

Others are more funny, like Aurivorous, or auri sacra fames..you should be able to figure out why i like them. I fooled around a bit with names like "Name already in use" or "Underpowered" (H11..), too.

If you see my ships, you can probably figure out where (and probably why) i got the name(s) from, but some are related to things that happenend in Kosmor or other games and so.

I have a rigid system in which I name my ships.

With the smaller dispensible ships I have formed squads. My squad of H1s (and there are many) sit on my WP and form my AEGIS squad (after the Sheild of Aegis which was made by Zeus) and each share the same name as below:

Quote:
Probe(H1) AEGIS_SQD of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Probe(H1) AEGIS_SQD of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Probe(H1) AEGIS_SQD of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar

My large Fleet of H4s form my DAYBREAKER Squad and also each share the same name. The name deriving from the size of the fleet and it's ability to cast a shadow over the largest of planets turning day to night when this massive fleet is launched into the sky as below:

Quote:
Interceptor(H4) DAYBREAKER_SQD of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Interceptor(H4) DAYBREAKER_SQD of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Interceptor(H4) DAYBREAKER_SQD of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar

My larger ships then are named individually, loosely in alphabetical order depending on the model, H8s all beginning with 'O' and H10s all beginning with P. My fleet of H8s and H10s are named after ancient and menacing gods of various Earthling cultures and are named in sets of 10, a few examples below:

Quote:
Heavy cruiser(H8) OSIRIS_I of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Heavy cruiser(H8) OSIRIS_II of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Heavy cruiser(H8) OSIRIS_III of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Heavy cruiser(H8) ORION_I of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Heavy cruiser(H8) ORION_II of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Heavy cruiser(H8) ORION_III of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Goliath(H10) PACHAMAMA_I of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Goliath(H10) PACHAMAMA_II of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Goliath(H10) PACHAMAMA_III of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Goliath(H10) PAEON_I of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Goliath(H10) PAEON_II of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Goliath(H10) PAEON_III of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar

...and many more beyond.

I also have an netweok of planetary defense H10's staioned at strategic points, these form my AEGIS First Squad and all share the same name:

Quote:
Goliath(H10) AEGIS_1ST_SQD of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Goliath(H10) AEGIS_1ST_SQD of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Goliath(H10) AEGIS_1ST_SQD of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar

Finally, my H11s are each given a unique and memorable name, sometimes menacing, sometimes a little tongue-in-cheek. A few examples below:

Quote:
Leviathan(H11) BARBARELLA_STRIKES of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Leviathan(H11) BATTLE_OF_PAJZAX of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Leviathan(H11) EMINENCE_OF_NIKOY of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Leviathan(H11) VIVA_ASTRO_TURF of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Leviathan(H11) WICKED_EYES of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar
Leviathan(H11) WISHFUL_THINKING of Darius, House: Order_of_Templar

Understandably the size of my fleet is classified therefore I have shortened and excluded many from the above list, you get the general idea though.

Darius
