If a T12 hits a small ship doing 227 points of damage, will that destroy the shields and hull in one hit? Or are two hits always needed to a ship protected by a shield?

If a ship has two shields, are two hits necessary to destroy each one, or are the shield points added together, such that the shield points can be reduced to zero in one hit?

For instance, if I have a Goliath with 8 S12, does that look like a ship with
HP: 1200 and SP: 3632 ?

Finally, how is the approximate hit probability calculated? Does anyone know what it roughly is?

1. two hits needed

2. one hit

3. something about 63%; but it's modified with the ship experience

PS to 3:

In the Goliath are only room for 6 Shields.
The 8 you are reading are for the Drives.

So an Goliath has:

HP: 1200
SP: 2724

so, if everybody is in agreement the only warships worth building are H4 and H9-11 what is the use of the others?

Are they unbalanced? Obviously they are easier, cheaper, and probably faster to build.

Smaller ships will get a bonus, but what is the use of really small craft?

H1 and H2 are totally useless
H3 can be handy to own 1-5 of
H4 are the mainstay of a non-pro (esp) fleet
then apart from that... the ships get bigger as the game goes on
so in the early stages, when most people have H4s, H5+H6 are good etc
H11 i dont think have really had their time in .com, as the number of players/fleet sizes are overall much smaller
H9 some people swear by
H10 is prolly the most popular

so for killing non-pros H6 is good
then H8 are popular, H9 and H10

my 2 cents

can the volley of a large ship be directed against multiple targets, or does it open up on one at a time?

If I placed 3 small ships with HP and Shields, will it take a total 6 volleys? or could they all be dropped by two big volleys? one for the shields, one for the tinfoil they are made of

A ship does aim the same target until the target got destroyed, at least one volley. If the target gets destroyed and the ship has not fired its full volley, the ship will look for another target, and will fire again until the target got destroyed or the ship fired its full volley.. and so on.

You will need at least two shots to destroy a shielded target, one for the shield and one for the hull. But because bigger ships carry more weapons, the can destroy more ships, with two shots each.

If you have three smalls ships, a big ship will need 6 shots, but only one volley. So you can't destroy shield and hull with one shot, but within one volley.
