Does anyone else find that only warplanets can attack, rather than ships?

That is generally the point.
Otherwise ships would attack planets just as harassment, and
considering they can't take planets 'cos they don't carry house
members the house members would be lost, and the game would find
itself with a serious deposit of them.
And supposing they could take enemy planets they would still be launching
from the warplanet, which would have to be close and so the point would be
lost as it would only take a couple of days longer for the warplanet to arrive.
Also I suppose part of the idea of the game is the risk of attacking and
losing your warplanet

Hmm, the house members come from the planet rather than the ship, they are already installed, plus it would, rather than being annoying would increase the tactical element, what it does is effectively turn a levian into a big gun, rather than a fly, Star-Destroyer Razz Also please refrain from using a proper forum as a way to get back on your defeat at Smash Bros. Very Happy

me = big anti idea

with no WPs, then it would be fast/instant/multi fronted war
it also makes it impossible to patrol the borders

the balance of the game would simply be lost

In a house there are more than one WP and therefor more than on attacking unit.

And there were really wars with several WPs in ancient times before we got the jump drive. Currently this has shifted to single attackers because of the big advantage of the jump drive. But this game is still developing (but unfortunatly slow) so there might be a change in the futue that changes this again.

But there will never be the option to attack a system with only a ship. It would be impossible build up any defence.

Also players would be advised to defend all planets ,so splitting up
their fleet. This would mean a less attacking and more defensive game
And Admiral_Thrawn learn to run LOSER

If the range of ships was restricted, this might be a good idea.

Given that a Goliath can move 120LY per day, my immediate thought is......tank-rush anyone?

Goliaths can generally travel right accross their own houses by jumping from planet to planet without getting stranded, so there's not much to stop them doing it to an enemy house too.

Simply having more Goliath's and sticking them on all your planets wouldnt be enough protection, as enemy Golis could double or treble up when the attack planets and slowly drain the defender of ships.

If you assume a Goli could conquer one enemy planet per day, except when its ganging up on ships guarding planets, every planet in a medium-sized house could be consumed by 20 Goliaths in, say, 20 days?

20 Golis would be easy enough for a large house to build, but the quantity needed to defend against such a force would be well beyond almost every house in the galaxy.......

Its a nice idea, but I think it would degenerate the game unless ship movement was restricted.

My personal feeling is that the game should run a turn every hour rather than once a day. Look at Galactic Conquest, an online browser game much like this one, you get a turn every 15 minutes. It makes for a great game because of how fast you can get into it. I don't like this too much because those who have played for months can easily attack the new people to the game. Heck, I was attacked not 1 day after starting the game. Not really fair in my opinion. I mean, I know very little in the way of gameplay, no money, no planets, and no ships. It was like stealing candy from a baby.

The faster you can get something, the faster you can and will loose it. I don't like games we're you build 5 million ships and we're you will be attacked by 30 million ships etc. The only thing you do is to build up unimaginable numbers of units and loosing them to a handful players which attack you because they don't like your name.

If you survive long enough to build up a fleet with which you can attack someone, he will call his friends which will burn you down 'till theres not even one evidence that you ever had something.

It is only one thing which decides your fate: the time (in seconds) you are playing the game. If you play one week long only one, two hours a day more then someone else, you will be so much stronger that his attacks (if he can attack) do not hurt you more then a lady bird.

And you can mostly get attacked by every player in the game, no matter how far he is away. In a few ours his fleet has reached you, and there is nothing you can do to stop the fleet before it is in range.

The problem that you (can) get attacked at the very beginning is more a problem of the fairness of the players and newbie-protection then of the lenght of a turn.

In games with longer turns, like kosmor, you can have an real life and still have fun playing it.

In reply to jackal 239, 15 minute turns don't work.
While you sleep some american kid i going to get about 40 turns to attack you
if he wants and you cant give any orders .
So unless you want to become nocturnal you are seriously screwed.
That is probably why .com hasn't yet had a kosmor tournament
